2001 USS Discovery 1 by dinobatfan 2001 USS Discovery 1 by dinobatfan
Detail of resin USS Discovery from the movie 2001: A space odyssey. The model is approx. 12 inches long. Quite small but quite detailed. I don't know who made the kit. I bought it on Ebay for about $30. I would love to know who made the kit as it is very well done and doesn't appear to be a recast. There was hardly any seam work to do, and hardly any air bubbles to fill. This was a very pleasant build! :) I'll submit better photos later.

You're welcome :). I'm pretty amazed by all the details and I love the movie. Wish I was able to do it but my hands are a failure for models.

And if you really want to go overboard, you could try to find a model of the Pan Am Space Clipper used in the film. I think they made a model of it..

Working on this one. I have the reissued Airfix Orion Pan Am Clipper. I want to get, and maybe will in the next pay day or so, the new Moebius Models Orion Clipper. It's supposed to be the most accurate of all. I do have a very small Orion clipper that is a one piece resin ship that is about 2 inches long. It's tiny, but well done. I'll have to finish that one soon too. :) Thanks for your interest and replies. :D

Looks like that AE-35 unit is broken. You'd better have a look at it.

I'll be sure to disconnect the psychotic, murderous shipboard computer first.

It says to do this in the warning section of the owner's manual when you take delivery of one of these ships. :D Thanks for the comment! :)

Thank you very much for the excellent complement! I really appreciate it! I actually found the kit on ebay for a very reasonable price. I just searched 2001:a space odyssey model and there it was. OH yes, I did build and paint it myself. It looks complex, but it really wasn't difficult. It was pretty much washes and drybrushing that did most of the work. A very pleasant build indeed! :)

Thank you very, very much! I'm really glad you like my work with it! It really was a very fun, delightful little model to build. I was expecting difficulty with it, but it really came together with no difficulties. I wish I had a link for you, but unfortunately I don't even know what person or company made it. There were no credits on the bag or tag that it came in. I just went onto ebay and randomly plugged in 2001 a space odyssey model and it came up.

I really wish I did know who made it as I would love to get a few more as gifts for a few friends who would really like it.

Thanks for writing back. I do wish you luck on a Discovery find. I'd been wanting a USS Discovery myself that was affordable and wouldn't take up a huge amount of shelf space and really lucked out when I found this one on ebay. It really is perfect for my collection. I did look on ebay to see if one was currently listed that I could send you after, but the only one there is a 36 inch long version for quite a bit of money out of the UK that I wasn't very impressed with and couldn't really recommend. The proportions looked off and the detailing didn't look very good. I'll keep checking ebay myself periodically and other sources and let you know if I find something if you like. The real shame about that small kit of mine is that there was no company or creator name on the bag header card that it came in. I would really like to either order more myself or be able to refer folks such as yourself to them to purchase one. *sigh*

I'd also recommend taking a look over at [link] ; they've got a nice reference section for 2001/2010 models.

Very nice indeed!
One might find out who made this kit, and you might find
one with a larger scale.
Try an outfit called: "monstersinmotion.com", I think
they will be right "up-your-alley".....

2001....my favorite movie.

Thank you very much for the wonderful comments! :) I appreciate it a lot. :) I am actually quite familiar with Monsters in motion. They are indeed an excellent source for just about anything sci fi resin related. Are you by chance also familiar with Culttvman? This too is a favorite of mine for sci fi related material and models.

Have a great one! :)
